Hi, my name is Otmar Manuela and I have been working at Caribmedia for 5 years.
How did I arrive here? After graduating from Colegio Arubano, I went to study in Melbourne, Florida (no, not Australia) where I earned my Masters Degree in Engineering Management with a focus in Software Engineering. I came back to Aruba in 2002 and started working as a programmer/troubleshooter of burglar/fire alarm systems and surveillance systems. When I saw an opportunity in web development, I decided to go for it and here I am.
I am a member of the technical department and my day to day tasks include the following:
- Java programming - I work mainly on the ContentXL framework, which is our home-made Content Management System
- Server Setup and Configuration - make sure websites have the necessary resources in order to function properly
- Server Monitoring - make sure the servers are healthy and backup scripts are running
- SSL Certificate Setup for secure websites
- Technical Support - troubleshoot website and email problems
- Internal Technical Supprt - make sure all our internal systems are running as expected
As you can see, the work is very diverse. You never know in the morning how your day will shape up. On one hand, it can be a scary thought, but on the other hand, that is what makes it very exciting and adventurous. I learned to deal with the scary thought, so now it is mostly adventurous.
After work hours, I am a keyboard player and a swimming instructor. I am also a member of the Rotaract Club of Aruba.
